Corgie puppy
Corgie
After we've been thinking of getting a new breed for several years, we decided to welcome a female Welsh Corgi Pembroke to our family. The desire after this lovely and sweet doggie was very big. However, the road to get our Biba was quite long. Searching for a litter was hard for us, since there were no puppies of this breed available in Slovenia. Therefore we decided in year 2008 to buy a female puppy from kennel Gaucho in Poland.

Pembroke is a very old English breed. There are several theories about the origin of Corgi's. One of the theories is that, the Pembroke probably is a relative to the Swedish Vallhund which was brought along to Wales, by Vikings around year 800. The name Corgi originates from the Keltic word "corgi" which meant dog. Another theory claims that Pembroke was brought to Wales by the Flemish weavers around year 1100. Any claim can be correct, one thing we know for certain though; the breed developed in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The Pembroke was originally used for herding livestock which he did quite well with help of nipping and barking. His low construction with short legs allowed him to be under cattle without getting injured or kicked at.

The Pembroke is known as Queen Elisabeth's II favourite breed. This probably made the Pembroke more popular and more outspread then the Cardigan. The dog is strong, very intelligent, obedient, loyal, devoted, protective, and brave - its a big dog in a small body. It doesn't need much care, only needs to be brushed every once in a while. We are very pleased to have our Biba, she is our cuddle and little rocket. Because we are thinking of breeding Pembroke's, we will have puppies with her in near future.
